Victoria “Victoria Artista” Armenta is a second-generation Mexican-Chilean American queer artist based in Houston, Texas. Her mediums span painting, mixed media, larger-than-life sculptures, textiles, and photography.
Rooted in her Hispanic heritage, Victoria’s work challenges traditional Catholic imagery and presents unapologetic depictions of domestic spaces and the people who inhabit them. Her art explores the complexities of being a middle-lower-class Hispanic woman in the United States. The experience of being Hispanic-Indigenous, or “Mestizo,” is often described as a tension between cultures and a feeling of being caught between worlds. Her work delves into the intersection of culture, community, and belonging—inviting the viewer to connect with relatable depictions on the concept of “home.”
