Loteria Casa

Interactive pop-up installation 2024

Loteria a Mexican Bingo game, has always been a tradtional unity gathering of fun and element of a family union.

The Mexican lotería is a popular board game in the country. Winning depends on luck. Lotería is similar to the American bingo, but it has characters and objects instead of numbers. Over time, the cards have become symbols of Mexican identity.

The Spaniards brought the game to Mexico at the end of the 18th century, but it only became popular when soldiers fighting for Mexican Independence began playing it. The game spread throughout the country, becoming popular at street fairs, where people sometimes made bets and exchanged money.

The purpose

It all begins with an idea, at Houston bars Loteria night hosted by { @lasamigaslatinas }

Having friends and being around a safe space to play games with loved ones, was my inspiration a place of belonging being around culture and brown community creative or not. Giving a sense of identity and family, feeling at home.

Thus, creating multiple smaller versions of the Loteria card house itself then became the large 7x10 installation.
